For 2018 9 Club Championship fell races have been selected plus some additional ‘Bonus’ races and prizes are awarded to the top male, female and veteran runners.
Rules of the Championship
Best of up to 5 scores, from the 9 Championship races, to count; the 5 races must include races at two lengths of the Fell Runners Association (FRA) categories Short (S, <10km), Medium (M, 10-20km) and Long (L, >20km). 50 points are awarded to the first Bingley runner down to 1 point for the 50th runner. It would be great to see 1 point awarded in at least one of the races – it is possible, we had 56 runners out in the Dec 17 GWF relay!
In addition there are 5 Bonus races for which any participating runner will score an additional 10 points for completing upto a maximum of 3 races (maximum additional 30 points).
To get points you must be entered as a Bingley Harrier and club vests must be worn
There will be one results category for each of these groups…..
1) The whole club:
3) Women Vet 40:
4) Men Vet 40:
5) Women V50:
6) Men Vet 50:

2018 Bingley Harriers Fell Championship
In 2018 we reduced the number of races in the Club championships and targeted a ‘5 out of 8’ format to limit fixture clashes for athletes and help the club focus on priority events. We want as many runners as possible to take part in the fell championship, and have chosen a mix of Short, Medium and Long races to encourage new runners to take part but also provide challenge to experienced fell runners. For the Fell Championship, in between the initial proposal and finalising the series the first race Ilkley Moor in February filled up so I have added an extra ‘equivalent’ race (local, Short) being Otley Chevin bringing the total to 9, with a restriction that the 5 counting races must include races at two distances to ensure results are from a range of races.
The Bonus races are the FRA English Fell Championship (EFC) Races. These have been chosen to :
- Keep them visible and encourage participation
- Provide additional challenge for those dedicated to the fells
- Support the Ladies target of getting teams (of 3) out at all the EFC races and featuring in the team results table at the end of the year (best 4 results out of the 6 EFC races)
Other key 2018 dates in the club Fell Calendar (book them out now!) will be :
Sun 7 Oct – Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay, Patterdale, Lake District
Sat 20 Oct – British Fell Relay, Grasmere, Lake District
