West Yorkshire Sports Hall Athletics Trials 2013

The West Yorkshire Sports Hall Athletics Trials were held at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre on 9th February . The Olympic legacy is still showing with over 120 Boys and Girls from all over West Yorkshire competing to gain selection for the West Yorkshire teams to go to the Yorkshire Regional finals in Hull on Sunday 24th February.

In the Under 13 Boys Tariq Said  from  ( Huddersfield Trust School) won the 2 Lap A final, 1st in the Shot Put, and 2nd in the Standing Triple Jump. Jayden Martin ( Salendine Nook High School) was second in the 2 Lap A final but won the High Jump and Standing Long Jump and was second in the Speed Bounce.

In the Under 13 Girls competition Anna Dickie (Crossley Heath GS)  showed she was in contention winning the Vertical Jump, Standing Long Jump and the 2 Lap A final and the 1 Lap Time Trial . YVAA Grand Prix No.1 Horsforth 03/02/2013

We had a few Harriers competing in the first race of this year’s series. Horsforth Harriers hosted the event at a new venue – Trinity and All Saints University to the west of Horsforth rail station. Facilities were good, with large car parks, excellent changing rooms, showers and toilets. The course was classic cross-country over very muddy and hilly fields and woods. The mens winner was David Watson, M40 Holmfirth 28m-52s and ladies Karen Pickles F40 Pudsey Pacers 34-49.

Yorkshire Regional Sportshall Athletics Festival – North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax

Following the successful Trials held at Richard Dunn Sports centre the  West Yorkshire Under 11 Girls and  West Yorkshire Under 11 Boys teams travelled to the match in Halifax for the Yorkshire Finals.

The match at Halifax featured the West Yorkshire Tykes,  and 2 teams from North Yorkshire all keen and raring to go. Both the Boys and Girls teams soon found that it would be no push over and had to pull out all the stops if they were to finish as champions. Passing through the events it looked very close with all teams picking up wins on the track and on the field events.

In the end the West Yorkshire Tykes Boys team finished in 1st place all with gold medals with 498 points with North Yorkshire A 28 points behind, just showing that every point counted for the Team. The team won the Obstacle Relay, Over Under Relay, 2+2 lap Relay, 1+1 Relay and the Grand Prix Relay . Individuals topping the rankings were Luke Tweed  in the Speed Bounce (1st equal) and Standing Long Jump, Calum Durrans  in the Speed Bounce(1st equal) and Theo Cokewright in the Chest Push, Joe Byron in the Vertical Jump And Aran Thomas in the Balance Test and Javelin ..
