125th Anniversary Championship

We are holding a special championship as part of the celebrations for the club’s 125th birthday. It’s different from our other championships as it will be scored on an age-graded basis so everyone, from juniors to veterans, will compete in one big competition. An explanation of how age-grading works can be found here.

The championship will run from 1st March to 31st December and comprise five events: one Road, one Fell, one Track, one Field and one Cross Country.

All members aged 12 and over can take part and enter each event as many times as there are opportunities (best performances to count). The only requirement is that you are listed as a Bingley Harrier in the event results.

The championship is being sponsored by Yorkshire runner, the specialist running retailer in Otley, and there will be prizes!

Road: Bradford parkrun takes place every Saturday morning in Lister Park at 09:00. All you need do is register with parkrun (it’s free), print off your personal barcode and take it with you when you run. Details here. Age-graded scores are shown in the official results.

Fell: Bunny Runs are taking place on 27th March, 3rd & 10th April. You can run in one for £3 or in all three for £7. Details here. Age-graded scores will be calculated from the Bunny Run all-time records, four of which are held by Bingley Harriers!

Track & Field: You will need a result in one track and one field event of your choice. You can enter as many different events as you like as many times as you like. Performances in the West Yorkshire Track & Field League, North of England League and Youth Development Leagues all count, as do those in any Northern Masters Open Track meeting (details here) for the over 35s. The calculator I will be using to work out the scores is here.

West Yorkshire Track & Field meetings are being held on 14th April (Wakefield), 2nd May (Cleckheaton), 23rd May (Wakefield), 13th June (Cleckheaton), 4th July (Wakefield), 5th August (Cleckheaton) and 9th September (Cleckheaton). The cost is £20 (seniors) and £15 (juniors), which covers all seven meetings. Entry forms will be available shortly. Details here.

Cross Country: Provisional dates for the four West Yorkshire League meetings are 13th or 14th October, 27th or 28th October, 17th or 18th November and 8th or 9th December. Entry fees and venues have yet to be decided. Entry forms will be available in September. Further details will be here nearer the time. As venues and courses change from year to year, age-graded scores will be calculated separately for each event using the best performances in each category on the day.
