Following the successful Trials held at Richard Dunn Sports centre the West Yorkshire Under 11 Girls and West Yorkshire Under 11 Boys teams travelled to the match in Halifax for the Yorkshire Finals.
The match at Halifax featured the West Yorkshire Tykes, and 2 teams from North Yorkshire all keen and raring to go. Both the Boys and Girls teams soon found that it would be no push over and had to pull out all the stops if they were to finish as champions. Passing through the events it looked very close with all teams picking up wins on the track and on the field events.
In the end the West Yorkshire Tykes Boys team finished in 1st place all with gold medals with 498 points with North Yorkshire A 28 points behind, just showing that every point counted for the Team. The team won the Obstacle Relay, Over Under Relay, 2+2 lap Relay, 1+1 Relay and the Grand Prix Relay . Individuals topping the rankings were Luke Tweed in the Speed Bounce (1st equal) and Standing Long Jump, Calum Durrans in the Speed Bounce(1st equal) and Theo Cokewright in the Chest Push, Joe Byron in the Vertical Jump And Aran Thomas in the Balance Test and Javelin .. All members of the team did very well in their individual events which are scored together with their team mates for the team positions.Read More »Yorkshire Regional Sportshall Athletics Festival – North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax

4 Bingley Harriers and friends ran the Hillforts & Headaches fell race (3m, 1020′) on New Year’s day. We were stopping in Wooler with friends walking, cycling and running. I had hunted for a local race and booked it into the timetable for the runners , and only just discovered that it was uphill only but fortunately everyone was still up for it including Mandy and Len who live in the flat lands of Hull and Nottingham. We were blessed with a bright, sunny, but windy day. The race started in Rothbury at the Newcastle Hotel . 83 runners lined up including our group of 4 Harriers being myself (Becky Weight), Gordon Weight, Mary Green, and Gordon Kaye , and friends Mandy Dean (West Hull Ladies) and Len Parker (Nottingham). We dropped down over the river then started to climb on road and track for about half a mile before turning across a short clipped field. A few tall stiles and down a dip across a small stream before starting to climb for real up a rough grass slope and out onto the open moor. This was a good runnable stretch with grassy paths and tracks across the moor to the road crossing and car park but a strong head wind and low winter sun in your eyes made running not quite as free as it might have been. Beyond the car park a stepped and rocky or muddy path climbed consistently steeply another half mile or so through the heather up Beacon Hill and the finish. Alan and Parker were our welcoming party but with the bitter wind Gordon (W) was already sheltering in the walled cairn waiting so we could all run down together. As soon as we had all finished a few celebratory photos were taken and we set off down before we froze.
18 brave Bingley souls battled the conditions on New Year’s Eve in the 19th running of this annual end of year race. Congratulations, once again,… Read More »Auld Lang Syne Fell Race 31/12
