West Yorkshire League Race Three: Junior Report

The third race in the League took place at Cleckheaton, on a beautiful autumn day, and once again the conditions underfoot were far from difficult.
Unfortunately our numbers were somewhat depleted with only 16 juniors taking part, and we were only able to manage three scoring teams, two of which were completed by runners making their debut. Oliver and Seth Simpson both performed admirably to help the U11 Boys come 12th, and the U13 Boys 6th. The U13 Girls finished 9th.
If our team performances were disappointing, the same could not be said for the individual ones. Pride of place must go to Rebecca Flaherty who recorded her third successive win, thus ensuring overall first place in the League in her first year in the age-group. Emily Field was also in splendid form, and her second individual win in a row puts her in a strong position to secure the overall title.
Two more runners deserve a special mention: Martha Jackson, in the U11 Girls, again ran a fine race to finish second, and Theo Clay showed real fighting qualities to finish 13th in the U13 Boys.
Well done to all those who ran, and let’s hope that we can have something like a full turn-out at the last race in Keighley.
