WYXC Series 2016 – Bingley Senior Ladies
We had between 3 and 8 ladies out at the 4 WYXC’s with the results below. A big welcome to Stephanie Robson and Eleanor Brown joining the Cross Country ‘squad’ in 2016 and good to see Emma Green back in cross country action after her first baby. In the overall individual results (best 3 of 4 races to count) Marisol Carrera Viva was 3rd W45, Lesley Watson 4th W40, Emma Green 5th W35 and Ellie Kitchen 9th Senior Women.
As a team we missed out on a team result (4 runners, all 4 races count) for the first race as we only had 3 runners. The race clashed with the Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay where 9 Bingley ladies were running (See website report Oct 16). In the following races we were 6th, 5th and 2nd team with the hilly course at Cliff Castle, Keighley obviously suiting our runners . With one more runner in the first race we may have been 3rd team overall – lets hope we can fill that place in 2017.

Eleanor Brown and Marisol Carrera Viva happy with good runs at the Keighley WYXC. Captured everyone else at the Yorkshire’s.
Yorkshire Championships, Lightwater Valley Sat 7th Jan 2017
The first great result was that eight ladies entered and eight ladies made it to the start (and finish) line so we had two counting teams and Barbara Carney came to cheer the teams on. With a relatively warm, for January, day with little wind and not too much rain for a few days the course was reasonably firm with only a few slightly muddy patches. Ruby Firth’s clean running shoes and legs, despite the fact she had already run, confirmed the good conditions. It was a pleasure to go out to watch the other races – the many zig-zags of the Lightwater Valley course making it great for spectators – you can cheer runners on several times on each lap!
The next great result was being 6th and 12th teams out of 28 teams. Over 155 lined up on the start for the ladies 4 lap 7.8km race, representing 36 clubs. Jo Buckley’s hard work (as usual!) earned her a great 16th (34.01) place in a race won by Julie Briscoe of Wakefield by almost half a minute in 30.24. Ellie Kitchen was our next counter in 37th (35.44) quickly followed by Emma Green (39th,35.52), and Lesley Watson (46, 36.36) who made up our first team. Stephanie Robson (50th, 36.58), Marisol Carrera Viva (51, 37.14) and Sarah Dewhirst (60, 37.46) were close behind, and Becky Weight (90, 40.56) made up our second team – who were 12th team overall and first B team.
Around and abouts the races Stephanie’s little girl was disappointed that the park wasn’t open until Tony Kingham saved the day by handing out Christmas chocolate selections. After the race some of of the ladies headed straight home to get on with the rest of the day while Ellie and I went back out to watch the men’s race – almost 300 guys thundering past just after the start really made the ground tremble! Steve Fry has reported on the men’s race. It was a really good day out – and the usual thanks go to Tony Kingham, Graham Smith and others who brought the tent – the tent is there for the whole day for juniors and seniors, gives shelter from the elements, a place to leave gear as there is nearly always someone around, and is a great social gathering point for the day.

All done and still looking fresh – Emma Green, Lesley Watson, Marisol Carrera Viva, Ellie Kitchen, Stephanie Robson, Katie Smith (U17 race), Sarah Dewhirst, Becky Weight – just missing Jo Buckley – no doubt headed off to help with the kids.
