Ladies in action – Jack Bloor, Odda, Malham, Kildwick, European Trials, Wetherby, Ilkley and more in May16

Busy with Millenium Way in Jun so a little behind with other ‘News’.  I hope this brings some good memories back ;-).  This is about Ladies Fell, XC and Off-Road activity. I am aiming for regular reports for general interest and the Committee. If I have missed your race or didn’t spot you in the results  drop me a few lines about it and your results to include in the next one.  I have included some references to the older junior ladies also as they are starting to join senior teams when the opportunity arises; their full results will be reported elsewhere.   Becky Weight – Ladies Fell Manager.

Three Peaks Fell Race April 16  Lots of our  Ladies (and Gents) marshalled and helped at this fantastic race (results in earlier report).  Races don’t happen without organisers and volunteers so a big round of applause to everyone involved.  I’ll find out who was there from Mr Marshal Organiser – Dave Weatherhead.

Jack Bloor Races, Ilkley –Senior (16+)  8.4km, 350m ascent;  U16 2.2km, 185m. Tue 10th May 2016

Lesley Watson (Senior) and Katie Smith (U16) tripped round the moor to pick up this Tuesday evening local event.  Lesley (102/198 runners in 55.03), having had some foot trouble, was seeing how it put up with some race pressure, while Katie (16.59) joined a small but select U16 group.  Photo courtesy of M Westman.

Over the Odda, Hawksworth, 10km Trail, Sat 14th May

Great comments from Marisol, Julie and Sue – thanks  ladies.

MariSol Carrera ‘Lots of Bingley Runners running today in different events. Over the Odda, a fantastic 10km local trail race. With great results, 4th,5th,6th,…’   Julie Thornton ‘Here are the results from the Bingley ladies:

4th Lady – Shona 50.52  1st F40;  5th Lady – Julie 51.35;  6th Lady – Marisol 52.38  1st F45;

Sue 58.49.   Great local off road 10k, a very popular event with lovely scenery. Very well organised.

As last year- it was a lovely route, lovely weather and beautiful bluebells! It feels like a hard 10k though- some of it across farmland, rutted by animals and very hard underfoot .Some of it on trails through the woods, crisscrossed by tree roots and lots of steep ascents and descents!

Lesley Watson (33.17, 42/116 overall) came a close second to Carol Morgan (32.54) of Nidd Valley.  Marisol Carrera was 71st overall in 37.15

Lesley sprinted out keeping with the front runners, knowing there was a hill to come; worked up the hill to the turn round where she was still first lady.  She was overtaken on the way down but held second.

Ruby Firth (U14) and Isabella Wright (U8) also ran in the junior races

Isle of Jura Fell Race 28km 2370m  28 May 2016 – Call for a lady next year.

No Bingley ladies but if there had been – a team prize may have been Bingley’s.  Could you tackle this next year 27 May 17?    Andy Jebb’s Facebook comments :

Myself (Andrew Jebb) , rob , holmsey, tom, and ste carney (support) have just been to jura for the fell race. It was a scotish championship race this year and a good quailty field ran Holmsey broke the v50 record and we should have won the first team prize but a new rule where you need a lady in the team ruined that?? Rough positions and times below. Rob 8th (1st v40) 3.30 Holmey 10th (1st v50) 3.34 Myself 16th 3.44 Tom 4.11 on his first jura!! Great weekend and weather!!!

Wetherby Triathlon 30 May 2016

Harriers ladies are out adding allsorts to their running.  Gaynor Beckett has been focussing on triathlons this year.  Sometimes it doesn’t quite go how you hope it might.   Here are her comments around the Wetherby Tri :

Gaynor Beckett  Oh what to do on a cold Bank Holiday Monday ‪#‎OhIKnow swim 1.5k in a freezing cold river & then warm up with a further 50k split on bike & foot‪#‎WetherbyTriathlon & rest assured ‪#‎IAMNOT feeling it right now‪#‎Crackers!!

Gaynor Beckett Didn’t enjoy it today #TooCold all the way through but hey I finished 😊

Gaynor Beckett   Disappointing result for me today ‪#‎1MinSlower overall than last year, but given the baltic swim & very windy bike conditions, disastrous T1 & running out of petrol on the run, oh & not forgetting ‪#‎TheIrony of my bib number, all in all ‪#‎IHaveToLaugh🙂
