This is about Ladies Fell, XC and Off-Road activity. I am aiming to do regular reports for general interest and the Committee. If I have missed your race or didn’t spot you in the the results drop me a few lines about it and your results to include in the next one. I have included some references to the older junior ladies also as they are starting to join senior teams when the opportunity arises; their full results will be reported elsewhere. And even some men have sneaked in – if anyone wants to write some mens reports I am happy to put them on Website. Becky Weight – Ladies Fell Manager.
Pudsey Post Hill 5km Challenge Sat 19 Mar
Vicky Omelianowicz found this local race –short with a steep muddy climb – a new one to me. Great result for Vicky & Bingley. Thanks for the Facebook post and picture Vicky. 19 March at 13:01 · Pudsey post hill done 28:18 3rd female Bingley Harriers Running & Athletics Club

Grizedale Duathlon Sun 20 Mar 2016 Offroad 4.1m run, 15m bike, 4.1m run
My (Becky Weight) Christmas present from the boys! Run 4.1m forest trail and paths with substantial climb, mountain bike (MTB) 15ms red (reasonably technical) single track route and forest trail, and run 4.1m again. My son Gordon entered himself too. A fantastic sunny day.
Having done virtually nothing on my MTB, other than a few bracken paths round Baildon Moor to check the bike was still OK, when I hit the first bit of single track I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew. The single tracks were rocky and rough making the ups really hard work and the downs body battering. But the views were stunning with some real ‘Wow’ moments over Coniston and the snow covered Lakeland tops. For me 3.57 and 1st (and only!) FV50 and Gordon 3.26, against winning F / M times of 3.00/2.16, although happy to say, as I do have a competitive streak, I beat him on the second run! He said his legs had gone and he was struggling to run in a straight line – needs to work on some endurance ;-).

Guiseley Gallop 2016 Sun 27 Mar 2016 Trail 10k
Shona Stone got herself organised for this good local trail race and sent this note (thanks Shona)
‘It was a nice surprise to see you on the course yesterday – you even managed to photo bomb one of my race photos (attached)! I was 7th lady (94th out of 432 runners) in a time of 48:45.
A slower time than previous years, but a much tougher course, which involved 2 laps with steep climbs and descents through the woods – no tow path or road sections as in the normal route.’ Thanks to Shona (and Eileen Woodhead) for the photo.
I was out with Robbie Williams and Emyr Rees recceing the new BBWay route, with John Smithurst en route also. We overlapped with the GG a number of times around Esholt so gave Shona encouragement J. Shona was 3rd F40, a great result in a very competitive category, in a ladies race won by Emma Clayton in 40.14.
Baildon Boundary Way – Sun 3 Apr 2016 – Offroad Half Marathon 13.45ms
A great Bingley crowd (18) for this very popular local offroad half marathon which you have to pre-enter as soon as it opens as it fills very quickly. We didn’t catch everyone for the photo!
With a revised route this year due to the winter floods times were generally slower than previously with the race organiser reckoning that the new route added about 9 minutes. There were 345 runners. Tom Adams (Ilkley) was a clear winner in 1.16 over 15 minutes in front of the field. Kirsty Allen of Baildon runners was the very popular ladies winner in 1.42 (28th overall).
Bingley ladies had a strong presence with 6 runners out and some great results with Lesley Watson & Shona Stone picking up 1st and 2nd F35, and, along with Julie Thornton, scooping the team prize, the second year running for Bingley Ladies.

Sue Fulton sent me her thoughts : ‘I’m celebrating having completed the route and trying not to think about being 22 mins slower than last year. On the whole i enjoyed it, but, as ever, not the long stretches on the canal. A big lesson has been learned that you can’t run a half marathon on one recce and little time to do some longer runs. Will try again, with more training next year!’
I’ll be joining Sue too – being nearly 13 minutes slower than last year
Coledale Horshoe Fell Race 9th Apr 2016 AM, 8.5m, 3002’ ascent
Denise Wright (along with Andy Jebb) made this one and reported : ‘Quick update for your next fell report. I did the Coledale Horseshoe Fell Race on Saturday. Perfect day, clear and mild with a bit of snow on the tops. Absolutely fab route, unlike my time! In retrospect I perhaps enjoyed it too much and should have worked harder but it was just great to be out in good weather with amazing views. I did spot Andy Jebb but I think we were the only Bingley runners.’
I have completely failed to find any results – lots of Salomon tweets and pictures (to pay for!) including Denise striding a fabulous Lakeland top in the sunshine and a light snow covering.
Bunny Run 1 Tue 29th Mar 2016 CS (Category C Short Fell Race) 4.8km, 100m ascent
277 runners braved the wet, cold and windy conditions for Bunny 1, with Tom Adams, Ikley (15.35) and Katie Walshaw (18.36) once again leading proceedings.

Great to see our young ladies (Juniors) out in strength. Here’s Ruby’s fantastic description of her first Bunny Run : ‘Last year, I was a month away from being twelve at the time of the Bunny Runs, so I was very sad when I was told I couldn’t run. This meant I was buzzing about having a go this year. I was first unperturbed by the weather, wearing layers of waterproofs to jog the course, but when I stripped down to my vest I was instantly frozen. Despite this, I tried to say confident, jogging frantically to try stay warm. Suddenly everyone was lining up, and we were starting. People rushed past me at all angles, and I was instantly soaked through and frozen. I slid down the hills and was totally out of control. The uphills were hard but somehow I managed to keep running all the way! Afterwards I was exhausted and soaked, and I was pretty much totally caked in mud. Having no spare clothes, I congratulated everyone I could find then rushed to the warmth and safety of my car! In that state, I decided I would probably freeze if I stayed any longer so escaped back home! Overall, I really enjoyed the challenge of the weather and longer distance, but afterwards when the cold really got to me was hell!! I will definitely be running the next race to improve my result!’
Bunny 2 Tue 5th April 2016
283 runners – bright & cold – better underfoot than Bunny 1 but still slippy greasy mud in places. Tom Adams – 1st 15.22, Ian Holmes (Bingley) 4th – in a new V50 record 16.34, Matthew Merrick – 12th 17.25 and Paul Tiffany 16th 17.46. Only a few points off the winning mens team Wharfedale. Erica Byram (Holmfirth)37th 19.19 was first lady.
12 Bingley ladies & girls out (hope I spotted everyone). Great to see our young ladies out in force again with Ruby & Eliza leading our pack home. Lesley, with the N Rd Relay (2m, Sat) and Baildon Boundary Way (13.5m, Sun) in her legs had to let them go. Despite my (Becky Weight) slower than previous time I was 1FV50 – you have to be in it to win it 😉

Bunny 3 Tue 12th April 2016
Another day of rain meant slippery & mud but still 250 runners out. Running times generally a little slower than Bunny 2. Tom Adams Ilkley was 1st in 15.55 – maybe aiming for Ian Holmes’ (Bingley) record number of Bunny wins. Ruby Sykes of Holmfirth lead the ladies home in 19.38. I had to pick the results from the Photos on the Woodentops site so I hope I got them right.

Great to see some new Bunny faces with Rosie joining the rest of the Findlay ladies, Lana Gill on Penistone Hill to get the feel of the event, and Natalie in her ‘road lights’. Her Facebook comments :
‘First ever bunny run completed 😁 they should call it the muddy runs!! Really enjoyed it but shan’t be wearing these shoes again!!! Might as well have been ice skating 😂 only fell over once though
Just a local fell race only 5k, it was a right laugh lol I was sliding all over the place landed on my bum lol but on a soft bit of grass so wasn’t too bad ha xx’
Surprisingly Natalie’s purple shoes looked as good as new on Thursday.
Over the Bunny race series we had 16 Bingley ladies and girls out with 7 – Ruby, Lesley, Vicky M, Vicky O, Katie, Lucy and Sophie making all 3 – well done. Lesley was consistently near the top of the F40 rankings. Ruby definitely lived up to her promise to ‘improve her results’ knocking 1.47 off her first run – well done Ruby. Eliza, Lucy and Katie make a great FU16 team and Katie scooped the FU16 series prize and an armful of Easter Eggs. Hope to see everyone at the Bunny Relays next week.
