Bingley turned out in force with 4 ladies teams and 5 mens teams to run this popular park – riverbank – canal towpath – park, 2.9 mile circuit in dry, sunny conditions. It does seem a contradiction to call it a road relay championship when a fair proportion of the course is on canal / riverbank, but it is a good venue and I have not heard any complaints about the course.
We had 2 winning age group teams:
F55 category, Mary Green – Sue Becconsall – S. Thornton. Mary ran the fastest age category time in
17m-46, with Sue Beccs 2nd fastest in 18m-12.
M70 cat. Dave Barber – John Smithurst – Tony Kingham. Tony ran fastest for age in an impressive
19m-03.
4 Bingley teams took 2nd places in age category:
F35 with Joe Buckley, Leslie Watson and Shona Stone. Joe was 3rd fastest for age in 16m-35.
M40 with Graham Askew, Andy Brown, Gary Childs and Mike McCartney. Andy was 3rd fastest
for age in 14m-42.
M50 with John Convery, Simon Fielding and Mark Westman. John was fastest for age in 15m-10,
With Simon 2nd in 15m-39.
M60 : Stuart Thompson, Bryan Parkinson & Peter Pyrah. Peter got 2nd fastest for age in 15m-58.
Runners in our F35 ”B”, F45 and M40 ”B” teams put in strong runs against quality competition, some gaining valuable experience for future events.
