Yorkshire Cross Country Championships 2015: Junior Report

The Yorkshire Championships returned to a very windy Lightwater Valley, and although only 7 Juniors took part, there were some fine performances.

Ruby Firth, in her first year as an U13, set the ball rolling with an outstanding run in 11th, a standard maintained by Vicki Merrick who, in the U15s, once again qualified for Yorkshire with a very we11 judged 8th place. She was supported by Eliza Findlay, Lucy Miller and Katie Smith, the team achieving a solid 5th place.

Matthew Merrick was very prominent at the front of the U15B race, until the problems caused by a chest infection caught up with him – nevertheless he held on to qualify in 7th place.

Running with the Senior Women, Sarah Dewhirst once again produced a gutsy run to finish 16th in her age-group.

Results:

U13 Girls: 11th Ruby Firth

U15 Girls: 8th Vicki Merrick; 24th Eliza Findlay; 43rd Lucy Miller;

44th Katie Smith

U15 Boys: 7th Matthew Merrick

Junior Women: 16th Sarah Dewhirst

Well done to all of the runners, and to those hardy souls who supported them so enthusiastically on a very testing day.
