Over the Odda – off road 10k, Hawksworth, 17th May 2014

Eight Bingley Harriers made the most of a beautiful sunny morning to join the 200 runners in this new (second year) local 10k off road race from Hawksworth.  Pre-entry was advertised but entries were taken on the day.  The race HQ was the junior school and there was a junior race before the senior race.  The senior race started in the fields below Hawksworth and did a figure of 8 down through Spring Wood (not too muddy!), back up to Hawkswoth, over the Odda, down to Guiseley and then back up over the Odda to finish at the school.  Bingley’s first finisher was Gordon Weight (5th / 45.39) behind the winning run of 41.50 by Peter Branny of Leeds City AC.   Paul Mitchell (6th / 45.50) was close on Gordon’s heels and was first M50-54.  John Merritt (15th / 48.51), James Howgego (21 / 51.06) and Jeremy Wilkinson (41 / 56.16) made up the rest of the male contingent.

Mary Green was in first place until the last turn into the school and held a fantastic second place (35th overall / 54.43).  Becky Weight was 5th lady (43 / 56.22) and got the 1 FV55 and Marisol Carrera Vivar  took 6th (46 / 56.42)

The run was an absolute pleasure with sunshine, grassy paths, dappled woods, bluebells and scatty lambs.  There was a goody bag for all finishers,  and hot dogs, tea and cakes on offer afterwards.   Marisol descending the steep gorse bank on the far side of the Odda.
