The overall picture is still encouraging, but the big increase in numbers of youngsters attending training is not yet reflected in the numbers who have competed in the league. It is true, however, that many of our “new” runners are not yet old enough, and we hope that they will take the opportunity to run in the PECO races.
As last year, 34 Club members ran at least once, with 21 of them running 3 times, which qualified them for an overall position. Ten of them ran in all four races.
We had entries in each of the 8 junior races, and in 3 of those we managed an overall position, the best of which was achieved by the U11 Boys in 6th place. Both the U13 Girls and U13 Boys finished 7th.
Not only were the U11 Boys our most successful team, but they were also the most consistent: all 6 of them achieved an overall position, and 4 of them were ever-presents. They well deserve a special mention.
Individual performances have been fully covered in other reports on our website, but I really must mention our two outstanding achievers: Emile Cairess was an emphatic overall League Champion in the U17 Men, and he, like Vicki Merrick, who finished in a splendid 3rd place in the U15 Girls, is at the bottom of the age-group. Congratulations to them, but also to every runner who took part: we hope to see many of you taking part in the even bigger racing challenges to come, at both Club and School level, in the New Year.
