West Yorkshire League Race Two : Junior Report

The second race in the League, at Bramley, saw a huge change in the weather, with our younger runners having to battle against the driving rain, and their older clubmates fighting to stay upright as conditions underfoot deteriorated.

The overall turnout was not quite as good as in the first race, with 23 of our youngsters taking part, though once again we were represented in every race. What’s more, we finished five scoring teams, with the U11 Boys 7th, the U13 Boys 5th, the U13 Girls 7th, the U15 Boys 7th and the U15 Girls 3rd. Let’s hope that we can persuade more U11 girls to take part next time.

From an individual point of view, I must begin with Emile Cairess, who had an outstanding run in the U17 Men’s race : has he ever run better? Fine efforts too, from Joseph Carnelley, 3rd in the U11 Boys, Vicki Merrick,  3rd in the U15 Girls, and Katie Smith, improving in every race, 12th in the U13 Girls.

There were very promising debuts from Max Duckett and Grace Dawson, and it was pleasing to see many of our runners achieving a higher position than in the first race, a trend which I hope will continue. If the team can show the same level of determination as they showed here, that is more than possible.

As  always, this was a fine team effort, with parents and supporters playing their part with great enthusiasm, and it was a pleasure, and a relief,  to have Graham and David back in the fold.
