Ladies enjoy the Calderdale Way Relay

  • by

Bingley ladies enjoyed a great team day out on the Calderdale Way on Sun 19th May and were 7th ladies team. The day itself was fair but wet and slippery underfoot from heavy rain on the Saturday.

Becky Weight and Alana Gill made a steady start with Alana battling with blisters and mud over the latter half of the 10m first leg from Clay Vale to Cragg Vale. Sue Fulton and Lesley Watson had a good run on the second leg over Stoodley Pike to Todmorden, beating their expected time, and improving the team’s place. Lesley enjoyed her first outing on a relay event of this nature.

Faye Firth and Lisa Spencer held our place on the shorter but largely uphill third leg upto Blackshaw Head, both enjoying their run. Ruth Whitehead and Eleanor Kitchen had a great run on the tough leg 4 over to Wainstalls. Mandy Clarke (welcome back Mandy) and Marisol Carrera Vivar held the team place with a strong run on the fast last leg.

Due to last minute illness the final team only went out on Friday so thanks to everyone for being flexible, and especially the reserves, the last of whom only knew they were running on Friday. We finished off a great ladies racing weekend with the BMAF Road Relay Gold, and Emma Clayton and Victoria Wilkinson coming first & second and being part of a winning Yorkshire team in the Intercounties Fell Championships at the Settle Hills race (also on the Sunday)
