On a lovely spring day in London, 3 of our Junior Bingley Harriers, selected for the Yorkshire team for their achievements last and this year, had the experience of running the final 5k of the London Marathon route in the mini London Marathon. Emile Cairess was the fist to run in the U15 boys and set a great pace to finish 9th overall in a time of 14.38.
Matthew Merrick was next to run in the U13 boys, a great start combined with a pacing race saw him finish in 37th place with a time of 17.34 (PB by 74 seconds). Last but not least, Vicki Merrick set off in the girls U13’s and wasn’t to be out done by the boys, Vicki ran a very tactical race finishing in 32nd place in a time of 19:03 (another PB of 92 seconds).
The comment of the day came from Vicki at the end of the race, saying, that was a strange race, planned for the hills and mud and only saw the flat and sun (that’s ma girl!!). 3 great results which also counted in the teams results. Yorkshire’s U15 boys with Emile came a fantastic 1st overall, the U13 boys with Matthew came 7th overall and the U13 girls witrh Vicki came home in 3rd place overall. Great weekend for our junior members who have all done the club and themselves proud. Well done.
