Following the successful Trials held at Richard Dunn Sports centre on 9th January the two West Yorkshire Under 11 Girls and two West Yorkshire Under 11 Boys teams travelled to Halifax for the Yorkshire & Humberside Finals.

The match at Halifax featured the West Yorkshire Tykes, West Yorkshire Terriers, Hull and East Riding and South Yorkshire and 2 teams from North Yorkshire teams all keen and raring to go. Both the Boys and Girls teams soon found that it would be no push over and had to pull out all the stops if they were to finish as champions. Passing through the events it looked very close with all teams picking up wins on the track and on the field events.

In the end the West Yorkshire Tykes Girls team finished in 1st place with 501 points and the West Yorkshire Terriers team were 3nd with 433 points just pushed out of second place by Hull & East Riding with North Yorkshire in 4th and 5th places and South Yorkshire in 6th place . In the individual events Rhea Southcott was 1st in the Vertical Jump and joint 1st in the Balance Test, Megan Ascough was first in the Standing Triple Jump, Olivia Procter Godfrey was first in the Chest Push and Ellie Kildunne was 1st in the Target Throw . The rest of the team did very well in their individual events which are scored together with their team mates for the team positions. In the relays the Girls Tykes were victorious in no less than 7 Track relays but finished second in the Over/Under Relay.

The West Yorkshire Terriers Girls Team in finishing 3rd place were in the mix for relay positions but were not a match against the Tykes and Hull & East Riding. Individually Charlie Ann Booth was 1st in the Soft Javelin.

The West Yorkshire Tykes Boys team were pipped into second place by Hull and East Riding with a score of 475 just 10 points behind. The team won the Over Under Relay but came second to Hull in the other relays, Individuals topping the rankings were Tobi Adeniji in the Triple Jump, Finlay Mallinson in the Target Throw and Ryan Lawden in the Balance Test.

The West Yorkshire Terriers Boys team were 3rd equal with North Yorkshire with a score of 437 , 38 points behind the Tykes team. The Terriers won the Grand Prix relay and were second in the Over/Under Relay but. Individually Rowen French won the Vertical Jump and Khizer Shazed won the Soft Javelin. The rest of the team did very well in their individual events which are scored together with their team mates for the team positions.

The day was an excellent experience for the youngsters with all teams and competitors being cheered on . It should not be too log before some of these athletes are competing for clubs in the outdoor Track & Field Leagues.
