Schools in the district were invited
to send teams to our cross country event in Myrtle Park, Bingley
on Wednesday 29th September 1999. The Young Athlete Development
event is supported by the Bradford & Bingley. Help with refreshments
was also given by MacDonald's Restaurants of Keighley.
With the schools reorganization in
Bradford we did not expect to have as good an entry as previous
years, we spread the net and encouraged the primary schools
to send entries from year 5. The response was very encouraging
and the event had a record turnout with 531 entries, the previous
best being 370. The event was a great success with 35 schools
sending teams and despite the appalling weather forecast it
stayed fine and dry for the races. Hopefully some of these youngsters
will be encouraged to take up athletics and join a local club.
The individual medals were presented after each race, but the
winning team awards and individual certificates will be forwarded
to the schools as soon as possible.
