The bottom meadow in Myrtle Park was a mass
of Children, Parents and teachers for the Bingley
Harriers annual Cross Country Challenge races.
The 9th annual event was run on a damp overcast
afternoon with a record massive entry of 895
children from 58 schools. The event and the
continued young athlete development will benefit
Bingley Harriers from the sponsorship from
local builder MLC Construction Ltd and the
government backed Sportsmatch scheme. A pleasing
endorsement of the event was, not only the
increased number of schools, the increased
number of Primary School Children but also
the large increase in the upper school children
taking part. In particular in the School Year
11/12/13 age group we normally see a handful
of reluctant participants, but not this year,
it was a very competitive race with over 70
Boys and Girls giving it their best efforts,
well done. Reports indicate that the schools
and athletes really enjoyed the event and Bingley
Harriers have had several enquires from enthusiastic
parents who would like their children to become
more involved.
Congratulations to all who took part and many thanks to our
sponsors MLC Construction Ltd, and Sportsmatch, and the teachers
for their support and to all the helpers on the day.
