Bingley Harriers have a rich tradition of Fell Running ranging from Fell Runner of the Year Martin Weeks in the 70's to recent British Champions Ian Holmes and Robb Jebb. In recent years the Women's team has performed
fantastically and really shown the men the way to go. The FRA Website www.fellrunner.co.uk and the Calendar has all the information about every fell race in England but here are the Championship races where the club should aim to
get out as many runners as possible.
Over the past 4 or 5 years the men seem to have struggled to get a team out in Championship races and but hopefully we can now get our act together and regularly compete. Many of these races are pre entry using the standard FRA
Entry Form so, if you do want to compete in the Championships please enter as early as possible.
BRITISH
- Short: Blackstone Edge (Sat. 28th June), Dufton (Sat. 30th Aug.)
- Medium: Moel Elio (Sat. 17th May), Durisdeer (Sat. 14th June)
- Long: Spelga Skyline (Sat. 5th April), Borrowdale (Sat. 2nd Aug.)
ENGLISH
- Short: Blackstone Edge (Sat. 28th June), Dufton (Sat. 30th Aug.)
- Medium: Black Combe (Sat. 8th March), Kentmere (Sun. 20th July)
- Long: Three Peaks (Sat. 26th April), Borrowdale (Sat. 2nd Aug.)
As you can see there will be 3 races that are both English & British Championship counters (Blackstone Edge/Dufton & Borrowdale) so if we were to focus on these 3 races, we would then only need to send a team to one more
English & British race to qualify, I'm sure we can do that.
If you are running these races then can you let Martin Peace at martinpeace@live.co.uk know 2 or 3 weeks in advance and then at least we will have an idea of the teams that are running and we can let everyone else know for car sharing as well.
RELAYS
Bingley specifically aims to put teams out in the following Relays:
- Ian Hodgson (4 legs run in pairs) - usually beginning October
- British Fell Relay (4 legs 2 run in pairs) - Middle of October
- Calderdale Way (6 legs all run in pairs) - Beginning December.
For the men the aim is to put together a team 5-6 weeks beforehand to give everyone a chance to recce their legs. Robin Lawrence and Martin Peace are co-ordinating the teams and will contact everyone beforehand to check who is available to
run. Our aim is to get teams out at all these events, whether that is the 'A' team or just those who wish to run it doesn't matter!! |
