Keith & Judith Firm SUMMER 5K SERIES

Events

The five dates for the series of 5k runs are as follows:

  • Tuesday 14 May
  • Tuesday 4 June
  • Tuesday 25 June
  • Tuesday 6 August
  • Tuesday 3 September

The presentation (with food) will take place on 10 September after training

The Summer Series is open to all Bingley Club members from the ages of 8 or 9 to 70+ and is a fantastic opportunity for juniors and seniors to run together in a competitive environment.

“Love this series…. its a great route & the results are up in a flash, a great training race/run for all.”

Registration will be on the towpath just down from the Fisherman’s, and will take
place from 6.45 onwards. First runner will be set off at 7.15, and the event will finish
by 8.00.

To qualify for a final position you must complete 3 runs

As always, such events cannot run without volunteers, and marshals play a key part in
this. If you can help at any of these events please contact John Smithurst, John
Capenerhurst or Tony Kingham.

Entry – £1 only

Each event starts on the Canal Towpath near the Fishermans Inn, Bingley. The route heads out along the canal all the way to Saltaire where it turns left over the footbridge into Roberts Park. Turn left immediately and proceed all the way around the cricket field before joining the main path. Go left and follow the path around the outside of the park , turn right just before the steps and then immediately left through the snickets to join the paved path along the houses. Follow this path going down the steps (or grass bank next to it) until you reach the footbridge back over the river. Cross the bridge and turn right along the track, left at the end and then right onto the canal for the last ¾ mile back to the finish. It’s slightly over 5k!! Don’t worry there are always marshalls to show you the way.

We operate a handicap system with slower runners starting in groups (usually 10-20 in each group) at minute intervals and progressively faster groups starting later. Everybody is usually back at the finish just over half an hour after the first group goes off at 7.15pm.
There’s a great atmosphere before the start, during and after each event with juniors fighting to beat or catch their rivals, friends or mums and dads. There’s nothing makes you run faster than an 11 year old bearing down on you!!

Last year we averaged approximately 85 competitors in each event and even managed over 100 in a couple of events.
So come along and join the fun, it’s only £1 and we have food at the sports club after a couple of events and prizes at the end of the series for juniors and senior age groups. You have to complete at least 4 events to qualify for any prizes. It’s not necessarily the fastest who receive a prize but those that finish highest overall.

You can find full details on the Harriers website with info updated regularly on the Harriers Facebook Page. Results are posted the day after the event on both of these sites and we also have a chart following your progress over the series so you can easily see whether you are getting faster (hopefully) or slower (more training needed!).
