YVAA Grand Prix No.7 at York Knavesmire 7 August 2013

  • by

A week after the Leeds Grand Prix, number 7 also enjoyed warm, dry weather for 205 runners to chase around the mainly flat cycle paths and unsurfaced paths near York racecourse. There is a long, slightly uphill riverside path to the finish. Parts of the route can be very muddy, but it was bone-dry this year. Race winner was the consistent David Watson, M40 from Holmfirth in 31m-48s.

Again there were no Bingley ladies and only 2 Bingley men, numbers being down due to holidays and probably because it was the day after Bingley’s 5K no.5

It was quality replacing quantity, with Les Haynes making a rare appearance to finish 36th male placing in 39m-23, comfortably taking first M70 award and also beating the first M60 and first M65. A very impressive run.Read More »YVAA Grand Prix No.7 at York Knavesmire 7 August 2013

YVAA Grand Prix No.6 at Crossgates 30 July 2013

  • by

Several variations of this course have been used for previous Yorkshire Vets and PECO races. This race HQ was Barnbow Social Club, Manston Lane, Leeds and hosted by St Theresas AC.  The Social Club is sited adjacent to the old Vickers tank factory and there were impressive steep ramps nearby used for tank test-driving.

The 5.5 mile race course was undulating fields and woodland, with a fast and long downhill field to start. It was a warm, dry evening, attracting 197 runners. The downside of the fast start was the long drag back to finish. No Bingley ladies competed.

Race winner was again David Watson, M40 , Holmfirth in 28m-20s.Read More »YVAA Grand Prix No.6 at Crossgates 30 July 2013

Success at the Yorkshire Veterans AA Road Relay Championships 2013 – Roberts Park, Saltaire, Sun 1st Sep 2013

Bingley had a successful day out with 2 ladies and 2 mens teams at the YVAA 2013 Road Relay Championship despite a number of people grounded with injuries. It was breezy and a little cool but a good running temperature and it stayed dry. The wind was only really noticeable while running out along Higher Coach Road – with the rest more sheltered or down wind. Our V70 men Fred, John & Les broke the previous record with Les Haynes taking the fastest leg in 18.07. The V60 men Peter, Bryan and Tony just missed third by 10 seconds. The V45 ladies Aly, Sue and Becky successfully retained Bingley’s title from last year, which was just as well as the shield was still with Mary Green who had been on holiday. Sue got the fastest leg closely followed by Aly which was a great achievement for both as they battle gluten intolerance and sacro-iliac problems respectively.Read More »Success at the Yorkshire Veterans AA Road Relay Championships 2013 – Roberts Park, Saltaire, Sun 1st Sep 2013

Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix 4 at Pudsey, 11 June 2013.

  • by

This event was hosted by Pudsey Pacers, with race HQ the Bankhouse Inn which has a large beer garden with stunning views over the woods and fields of the Fulneck valley. It was on the same evening as Bingley’s 5K No.2, so there were few Bingley runners.

The 4.6 mile course starts on Scholebrook Lane near Scholebrook Farm, takes in 2 hilly circuits of Black Carr Woods, followed by a steep climb up the rough Scholebrook Lane heading towards Bankhouse Inn, with a left turn at the top and a 100m flat sprint (if your legs haven’t turned to jelly) to the finish.Read More »Yorkshire Vets Grand Prix 4 at Pudsey, 11 June 2013.
