January Handicap. 2/1/2021. Results and Race report.

It’s nice to run round Cottingley Woods,It’s nice to run round Cottingley Woods,
It’s nice to run round Cottingley Woods…on a Golden Frosty Morning.

It was great to see so many of you turn up on a bitterly cold day. When my alarm went off I confess to wanting to stay under the duvet but we were rewarded with wonderful weather and some excellent racing.

It is heartwarming to see the little pockets of relatives in the results, demonstrating what a a nice family club we are. Fathers running against daughters, mothers racing against sons and even a grandad showing two generations the way to the finish line. Some of our club have had a or perhaps are having a difficult time of things, me included, so to have the opportunity to be amongst our Bingley Harriers Family really does help and lift the spirits. So thank you all for coming along.

On the day I got the handicapping wrong. No one should win a handicap by 4 minutes so my apologies to those setting off at the back of the field. I was completely fooled, and my mistake gave you no chance. That said well done to young William Johnson on a fantastic run and catching us by surprise in arriving back before we had set up the finishing funnel.

Although I underestimated the form of the first 5 runners, further down the field there was some interesting little battles, with only 5 minutes separating positions 7 to 33. My aim is to get this down to 3 minutes between 1st and last.

Thanks to Eileen and Dave Woodhead and Dave Weatherhead for some excellent photos.

Thanks to all the Marshall’s who ensured your safety and probably took a while to defrost., Becky and Alan Weight, Catherine and Richard Holmes, Barbara Carney for being first aid stand by, Sarah Hey, Helen Morrell, Paul Hellens for helping grit the paths, Emyr Rees, Dave Weatherhead, Adrian Netherwood for hanging around on their own in the woods, to Dave Stephenson and Jude Wilson for timing software and programming, to John Capenerhurst for volunteering his services, unfortunately his garage lock was frozen and couldn’t get here. Lastly to my daughter Vicky and Wife Angela for organising me and supporting me with your practical skills and helping me look less like Mr Bean. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Once again, thanks for being there. I hope to see you all on 6th February. Same location, same start time.🙋🏻‍♂️
