WYXC Series – Race 4 Keighley Sat 9 Dec and Series results
Another good turnout at Keighley on a cold chilly day with wintery showers and snow lying on the tops. Cliff Castle Park was sticky and muddy in places but not as slippy and deep as in some previous years. Jo lead us home to a 5th placed team at Keighley. Race 1-3 results were in an earlier report.

In the Series the ladies team (all 4 races to count) had a great result finishing in 5th. We had 10 ladies running with at least 6 at every race. Only 3 points separated the 4th to 7th teams (Harrogate, Bingley, K&C and Ilkley) so even getting to one race can help and every last place counts. Many thanks to the 8 ladies above, plus Lesley Watson and Eleanor Kitchen.
Also great to see several ladies in the Series individual results (best 3 races to count) :
U20W Anna Whitehead 10th
SW Ellie Kitchen 7th
SW Elizabeth Heywood 11th
SW Eleanor Brown 12th
SW40 Clare Smith 10th
SW45 Marisol Carrera 5th
SW55 Becky Weight 2nd
And great to see our U17 ladies out at the WYXC – Emily Field, Eliza Findlay and Katie Smith; junior results are reported separately.

Yorkshire XC Championships, Lightwater Valley, Sat 6th Jan 2018
10 senior and 2 junior (U20) ladies made the trip to Lightwater Valley on a bright, cool, dry day, and not too muddy underfoot despite what had seemed to be a lot of rain in the run up to the event. All 12 started together with the Junior ladies doing 3 (~6km) and Seniors 4 laps (~8km). The course snakes back and forth a number of times on rough grassland between copses of trees, around a small pond, across lower softer stretch , up a steep muddy wooded bank, up and down some rolling slopes and all with the roller coaster swooping around in the background. The course is varied enough to be interesting even with multiple laps, and great for spectators who can cheer you on in several places, even if it does start to get confusing when the front runners start lapping the later runners.

Great to see some new to cross country faces this season – Denise, Eleanor and Clare (and maybe Phoebe – unless she ran in junior XC’s?) and Sally & Emma back in the cross country teams.
With 10 runners out we got two counting teams in 7th and 13th places out of the 20 full teams, with many more clubs with incomplete teams. Well done ladies.

Northern XC Championships, Harewood House, Sat 27th Jan 2018
A report from Team Manager Jo Buckley :
What a great venue, and what sticky slimy mud. 15mm spikes would have been better!! Again the junior ladies and U17’s showed that we have youngsters coming through with Emily Field and Eliza Findley 10th and 61st respectively in the U17 and Vicki Merrick 57th in the U20’s. I don’t think the senior ladies team had anyone under the age of 40, but saying that I believe our average age was still considerably younger than the senior mens team. Well done boys!! You did us proud. We managed 18th team out of 53 clubs that fielded complete teams. We had 11 runners. The 4 counters were Jo Buckley ( 71st), Lesley Watson ( 109), Denise Wright (131) and Marisol C.V. ( 183rd) out of 435 runners finishing. KCAC got us this time finishing 16th team.
And a little more from Becky Weight :
Great to have the Northern’s so close to hand and at such a fantastic venue at Harewood House. Lining up with almost 450 ladies in the longest line of starting pens I have ever seen, is something to experience.
Great runs from Jo, Lesley, Marisol and especially Denise in her first cross country season, bringing the team home in 18th place. And showing strength in depth, if second teams had counted we would have taken around 35th too. Welcome and well done and to Sally Parkin who knows how to jump in at the deep end with this as her first ever cross country event. And thanks for extra support on the day from Sally Robinson but wasn’t 100%.
