West Yorkshire League Race Two: Junior Report

Nunroyd Park, Guiseley, was the venue for the second race in the League on a glorious autumn day, and on a revised course which was certainly better for spectators and, I hope, for runners!

For various reasons, mostly the half-term break, our numbers were somewhat depleted, with 19 juniors taking part, but we were able to finish with three scoring teams: the U11 Boys were 13th, U17 Men 3rd and the Under 13 Boys a most encouraging 2nd.

One very pleasing aspect of the day was the debut of three of our runners, whom we are delighted to welcome, and all of whom performed splendidly: Theo Armitage in the Under 11 Boys race was a fine second counter; Theo Clay was our third counter in the excellent U13 team; and Martha Jackson secured an impressive 2nd place in the U11 Girls.

Indeed there was a great deal to be pleased with on an individual basis: Samuel Mantle had one of his best-ever runs to finish third in the U13 Boys race; Rebecca Flaherty, with another very mature run, again came 1st in the U13 Girls; and Emily Field, who goes from strength to strength, had a dominating win in the U17 race.

I could in fact mention every athlete that turned out, as they all performed with great determination and did the Club proud, as the results below clearly illustrate:

U11 Boys:
25th William Askew;
39th Theo Armitage;
64th Matthew Peace

U11 Girls:
2nd Martha Jackson;
54th Evie Trusselle

3rd Samuel Mantle;
7th Jake Wallace;
20th Theo Clay;

Well done to all the runners and thanks to everyone for the great support: let’s keep up the momentum and hope for a full turnout next time!
