Cross Country. West Yorkshire League. Race 1

Thornes Park Wakefield Saturday 14th October 2017.

Team Captains Report. Senior Men.

I was very pleased to see 13 senior men line up for this race, especially with the FRA relays taking place the same weekend.  First Bingley Runner home was Ian Fisher who put in a storming run to finish 17th, and 1st Vet 45. Ian joined the club as a youngster, before leaving to run for Otley. It’s great to see him back in the blue and white hoops. Next Bingley man home was John Convery in 35th overall 1st Vet 55. Another fine run. They were supported by Martin Peace 57th, Arctic John Parkin 67th, James Senior 100th, Paul Lemmon 107th, Stephen Fry 113th, Andy Gibbons 127th, Dave Potter 129th, Peter Ellerton 2nd Vet 70, Emyr Rees 179th, Phil Hawkswell 187th. Bill Haygarth also gave a valiant performance but retired in the unseasonal conditions which were more like August than October. Overall the team finished 9th. I am sure we can do better. We have 24 senior men entered which is brilliant and demonstrates a commitment so please guys you’ve paid your money so don’t let it go to waste.

Next league race is Sunday 29th October at Nunroyd Park Guiseley. This is advertised as 8K so slightly shorter than the Wakefield race. Once again thanks to all who ran, and to Tony Kingham , John Capenhurst and all the juniors and Ladies who stayed to give much needed vocal encouragement. Hope you can all make it to the next race.

Steve Fry.
