Ladies Fell, XC and Off Road Q117 (with a few gents mentioned also) -Records, Nine Standards, Harewood, High Cup Nick, Hoppits, Haworth Hobble, Heptonstall, Long Mynd

My regular reports have not been so regular recently – apologies – my Coach in Running Fitness course has been keeping me busy.  If I have missed your race or didn’t spot you in the results  drop me a few lines about it and your results to include in the next one.   Becky Weight – Ladies Fell Manager.

Nine Standards Fell Race  BM 12.9km/549m  Sat 1 Jan 2017

Victoria Wilkinson had a great start to the New Year breaking the woman’s record by over 2 mins in a time of 58.20.  Vic was the only Bingley Harrier at this event and finished 10th in a field of 150.  Thanks to Ruth Thackray for picking up on this one

Great start to 2017, well done Victoria Wilkinson and Happy New Year

No bingley ladies at this one – but a few gents made their way over to Calderdale  with Peter Ellerton  claiming first V70.

The results don’t  have club names in them so difficult to find who ran.  Perhaps Martin Fairall (Martin’s picture)  and Natalie Madgett could write something for this 😉

Natalie Madgett Anyone else notice the cut backs this year lol the medal wasn’t as good and no date on it or on the tshirt…hmm I wonder what they will give out next year 😂· 27 February at 17:43

High Cup Nick BM 15km/460m  Sat 25 Feb 2017

Victoria Wilkinson notched up another record breaking run finishing 11th out of 250 runners in 1.06.47, shaving nearly a minute off her previous record, and over 10mins in front of the next lady Heidi Dent (Howgill).

Rob Jebb was first MV40 finishing 10th in 1.06.31 behind winner Tom Addison (Helm Hill) in 1.01.01.   Andy Gibbon finished 76th in 1.21.07

Hoppits Hill BS 5.6km/250m Sun 26 Feb 2017

The first race of the Fell Championship and a great report already on the website from Stephen Firth :    https://www.bingleyharriers.co.uk/blog/2017/02/28/hoppits-hill-fell-race/

Bad start for me on the fell championship as I was double booked with the first two days of a coaching course but I enjoyed recceing with a couple of others.   Hoppits Hill is near Mirfield & Huddersfield – a new race for most Bingley Harriers.

Haworth Hobble  BL 51km/1340m  Sat 11 Mar 2017

Three long distance ladies turned out for this one – Jo, Ruth & Kate.  Ian Holmes arrived home in 6th place and 1st V50 less than 4 minutes behind the winner.  The Jebb brothers took the Mens Pair prize in 15th place.  Andy Gibbons and John Parkin finished together – as did Ruth Thackray and Dave Stephenson – with Ruth pulling Dave along.  Could be first Mixed Pair next year?     And Kate getting in a good ‘warm up ‘ for her foreign ventures later in the year.  A great top half result for everyone in a field of 367 runners.

Jo Buckley sought Facebook help to decide between a last minute reserve call for the Yorkshire Intercounties team – should she take the White Rose opportunity – maybe her last – or should she Hobble?  Jo followed her heart in the end and hobbled.  As it turned out the Hobble was a counter for the GB ultra trail team but I am not sure if it earned her a place.

Andy Jebb caught Ruth an Dave finishing the Hobble. “Next year they should enter as a mixed pair. They would have won this year”

Heptonstall  BL 24.8km/966m  Sun 19 Mar 2017

The second race in the Fell Championship.  Having recced it twice with different groups I couldn’t actually make the race as I was double booked  (again!) for the weekend.   A typical Calderdale Pennine moorland race – up & down out of valleys full of historical industrial past much now grown over with woods,  boggy moor tops, small walled fields and stone step stiles, smoke black stone cottages and old cobbled tracks.  In the event it rained in run up to the race, and continued wet and windy on the day so some who had recced it saw better sense.  But seven hardy souls made the journey and joined a field of 247– I think for some it was on the Three Peaks preparation trail so could not be ducked, though webbed feet may have been handy.

Pinching some of the Facebook comments :

Well done to all our Heptonstall Fell Race (16ms) runners yesterday in what sounded like pretty rough conditions – especially Lesley Watson who had already won Gold in the BMAF XC championships – V45 Ladies team – on her birthday weekend.

Martin Peace    ‘I can confirm it was wet, wild and one long bog’

Lesley Watson  ‘Yes sliding down…I can do…. not quite got the uphill sliding down going up.’

And the organiser described it as a ‘rain-sodden bog-fest’.

Well done to Alastair – great result for maybe his first fell race, but I guess not new to mud and bog being   well versed in mountain biking.

Long Mynd Valleys  AM 18.5km Sat 25 Mar 2017

Victoria kicked off her English Fell championship races in winning style with a win at Long Mynd.  24th place overall in 1.41.10 in a race won by Tom Addison in 1.33.28.  Rob Jebb  (12th 1.37.50 2V40) continued his V40 tussle with Rob Hope of Pudsey & Bramley (7th 1.36.20 1V40).

The Spring Cross Country races have been reported on separately (see News on website).  Bingley ladies have been out at many more since so lots more to come :

Rivock Edge, Ilkley, Guiseley Gallop, Baildon Boundary Way, Bob Smith Handicap, Bunny Runs and Relay, Anniversary Waltz, Coiners, Three Peaks, Bluebell Trail, Over the Odda, Harden Trail, Fairfield

If you were at any of these (or others!)  a write up or a few lines would be much appreciated  – this can be your own experience, Bingley results, or whatever you would like to write about it.   Thanks.  Becky Weight – Ladies Fell Manager
