National Schools Cross Country Finals
Held at Loughborough on Saturday 25 March 2017

This was the second year of this event, held for school years 4-7 and the Club had three girls and one boy representing West Yorkshire : Martha Jackson (yr 5), Grace Ross (yr 5), Rebecca Flaherty (yr 6), and Samuel Mantle (yr 7). All four had battled their way through the Bradford qualifying round, then the West Yorkshire round (where both Martha and Rebecca had won their respective races), until they found themselves on the starting-line in unfamiliar purple strip. All four performed with great distinction.

In the Year 5 race Grace finished 39th out of the 240 starters, scoring for the winning West Yorkshire team, while Martha, one of our newest members, had a scintillating run to come home clear of the opposition in the gold medal position.

Rebecca, in the Year 6 race, set off with her usual aggression, and led for much of the race. She was passed by two girls just before the finish, but was rewarded with a magnificent bronze medal.

In the Year 7 race, which was very competitive, Samuel came home in 125th place.

Congratulations to all four who really did themselves and the Club proud – I’m already looking forward to next cross-country season!
