English Schools Cross Country

  • by

Had an amazing time yesterday at the English Schools Cross Country in Norwich, the hard work we all put in to qualify was worth it—really enjoyed the run and a great atmosphere. It was my first time qualifying for a county team at a national level and I was amazed by the size and quality of each race—a very strange experience for usual rivals to become teammates too. As most of the Bingley lot were running for West Yorkshire, it was nice to have friends from Wharfedale, Mandale, Darlington and York. (And thanks to Vicki Merrick for giving all of us running for North Yorkshire lovely face paint, you were an important part of our team!). The course was tough and flat for those of us used to a few hills but it was well run by many with some great results—Matt Merrick coming 15th Senior Boy, Alex Flaherty 44th Junior Boy, Reuben Mantle 118th Inter Boy and Emily Field 212th Inter Girl, with me at 153rd in the Junior Girls. (Sorry if I’ve missed anyone out!). Although the weather got progressively worse, turning from overcast but warm to windy and rainy, most of us stayed relatively dry huddled under team tents and it didn’t dampen our spirits. A great day with some great results, well done everyone who ran!
