Hoppits Hill Fell Race

  • by

9 Bingley Harriers made the trip over to Mirfield to compete in the first race of the Bingley Harriers Fell Championship. On paper the race, starting from Hopton Mills Cricket club, looked straight forward. A 3 mile course over terrain ranging from woodland bridleways to open fields looked like a “walk in the park” but as the faces on the finishers would tell the race was nothing of the sort!

The race started with a straight up hill dash through the woods but there was no let up in the course as the distance and the constant short drops followed by steady climbs meant that there was no recovery to be found until the finish. Plenty of mud in the second half added to the difficulty and a collision with a metal pole, near the finish, made my race a little more painful than than it already was!

Everybody who dragged themselves around the course all said that it was a great little course and tougher than expected, but everyone enjoyed it.
