Yorkshire Cross Country Championships – Senior Men’s race report

Yorkshire Cross Country Championships Lightwater Valley, Ripon. 7th Jan 2017. Senior Men’s race report. As we prepared for yesterday’s race with the majority of runners warming up in vest and shorts it was hard to believe it was January. Where was the ankle deep water we were all expecting. First Runner home was a Bingley “old” boy with young Emile Cairess gaining the County Title. Well Done Emile. Although we had 19 men entered, after the ravages of Christmas only 9 made it to the start line. Unfortunately our leading runner on the day, John Convery had to pull out due to injury, recording a rare DNF. It was left to one of our newer members Clive Smith to lead the team home finishing 135th. Next home was John Parkin in 150th. Robbie Williams running his first Cross Country race finished 173rd, Stephen Fry 177th, Paul Lemmon 203rd, Vets Captain Peter Peter Ellerton 260th, Social Secretary Phil Hawkswell, 273rd and Club Treasurer Bill Haygarth 204th.team finished 27th with 1098 points. Some other notable performance by other Bingley old boys were: James Hall 5th, Lee Athersmith 25th, Richard Harris 29th, Sam Clegg 42nd and Steve Green 102nd. Thanks to all who ran and who turned up to support. Next XC race is Northern Championships at Knowlsley on 28th Jan.
