BINGLEY HARRIERS AT THE THREE PEAKS RACE 2016

Saturday April 30 2016

Bingley Ladies’ team wins first team place.

Congratulations to Bingley Harriers’ Ladies team (Victoria Wilkinson (35), Ruth Whitehead – a delight to see her back running and on the fells again –  (286) and Lesley Watson (351) who gained first ladies’ team position, beating Holmfirth Harriers (2nd) and Helm Hill Runners (3rd). A great performance by all three Bingley runners! Victoria Wilkinson’s first class time of 3:26:47 gave her a convincing victory of 9 minutes 8 seconds over second lady Mira Rai from Nepal.

The weather was changeable ranging from arctic to warm spring temperatures depending on one’s location, elevation and the time of day. On the tops conditions were treacherous where the snow had been compacted and had formed a hard icy crust; and temperatures on the summits were well below freezing with the wind chill.

The race was won by Marc Lauenstein running for Salomon in a time of 2:48:58. slower by 2 minutes 55 seconds than the record over the current course set by Bingley Harriers’ Andy Peace in 1996
