Ladies at the Northern XC Championships, Blackburn, Sat 30th Jan 2016

Witton Park lived up to its reputation for a tough course and mud.  The senior ladies team put their fell experience to good use and had a great result coming 12th out of 40 teams, with many more clubs represented.

The Facebook comments and a few pictures to describe the day :

Jo Buckley  We had a lovely day out and finished 12th team in the senior ladies. Massive thanks to the Merricks and other unsuspecting juniors saving the day and looking after dogs, kids, prams whilst the mummies had fun in horizontal hail and knee deep clay! Out of 358 runners Becky Weight came 187, Leslie 119, Shona Stone 103 and I was 32nd. Well done girls! Steven Fry valiantly battled round 4 lads of slime including the famous teaspoon being the only bingley bloke. Well done! 416 out of 719.not bad on the those hobbit feet!Top of Form

Jo Buckley I never said…at the northern cross country in blackburn….whoops….

Martin Peace Good effort everyone. Witton is tough on a normal day but must have been even tougher today.

Barbara Carney Very well done. Good to see the ladies’ team….and a solitary Steve F flying the Bingley flag.

Dave Stephenson  4 lads of slime – sounds like the name of a band my son Joe played in! Good effort Steve.

Shona Stone Pleased with the team position – especially after doubting my sanity bringing 2 children along to in some of the worst conditions I’ve known! Big thanks to Vicky Merrick & helpers for looking after the children, along with Alan & Jo Buckley & Becky Weight for being a top passenger & aide on the journey & at the event.

Stephen Fry The underfoot conditions today were much tougher than anything on the whole Pennine way. 7 miles of Clay like ankle deep squelch apart from the 50 yards of gravel path just before the hill. The loose gravel was perfect for turning my totally useless X talons in to concrete boots as it gathered around my foot. A truly memorable day I hope to be able to forget after Timothy Taylor’s therapy.

Becky Weight 12th team out of 40 teams is a brilliant result – especially with me as a counter! Northern XC, Blackburn Sat 30 Jan. Massive thanks to Tony Kingham and Graham Smith for getting the tent there early doors, being out on the course cheering everyone on…See More

Lesley Watson My most memorable bit, was taking a bath in the deep muddy bit just before the gate. I think due to the hail hitting my eyes and making me blind. Oh and watching the kids was a lot warmer. But all in all a great day out, well done all.

NXCJan16SS1DaveWoodhead   Running in hail and snow….                       P1050007 (1024x768) ….kids….

Our junior ladies were out also with Sarah Dewhirst (U20), Vicky Merrick (U17), Eliza Findlay, Katie Smith and Lucy Miller (U15s) and Ruby Firth (U13) all running.  Lots of photos on the Woodentops site http://www.woodentops.org.uk/index.php?topic=home&subtopic=morephotos.  Thanks to Dave Woodhead for the running photos above.   Well done girls and special thanks for helping looking after Shona and Jo’s kids so we could run as a team, and to Katie for holding the tent up against the tail end of Storm Gertrude and the early gusts of Storm Henry.
