West Yorkshire League Race Three: Junior Report

  • by

The third race in the League took place in the grounds of Cliffe Castle, and those who were anticipating a muddy course were not disappointed: everyone who took part, and managed to finish, deserves great credit.

Although our numbers were a little depleted, 22 Juniors took part, and once again we were represented in every race, with four scoring teams: the U11 Girls came 5th, the U11 Boys 3rd, the Under 13 Boys 6th, and the U15 Girls 4th.

As to individual performances, it was very pleasing to see Grace Ross making her début for the Club and to welcome Callum Watson back from his injury: both of them were scorers in their respective teams.

Amongst the others, there was a great deal with which to be impressed, particularly in the younger age-groups: continued excellence from Jake Wallace, Oliver Peace, Alex Flaherty and Ruby Firth, and real improvement from Joseph Carnelley and Rebecca Flaherty. I must also mention a very brave and determined run from Lucy Miller.

All in all, Graham, David and I were very pleased with the effort put in by everybody in difficult conditions, and we hope that we can continue in this vein for the last race in the league.

In the meantime it would be very pleasing to see a very good entry for the first PECO League race on Sunday 22 November: a real opportunity for our younger runners to race in a more relaxed atmosphere.
