The Championships this year were held on a testing course at Silcoates and once again Bingley Harriers Juniors figured prominently in what was a successful day for the Bradford team: Reuben Mantle, in the Junior Boys, and Emile Cairess, in the Senior Boys, were impressive individual winners; Matthew Merrick, in the Junior Boys, was also selected for the team to represent West Yorkshire in the English Schools Championships on March 14, at Blackburn.
Eliza Findlay, in the Junior Girls, Vicki Merrick, in the Inter Girls, and Sarah Dewhirst, in the Senior Girls, all performed very well and are reserves for the team.
It was also pleasing to see Lucy Miller back to something like her true form, Katie Smith battling through as usual, and our Inter Girls contributing so much to a strong 2nd team place, with a fine run from Olivia Roper.
There were promising debuts from James Askew, Jamie Tse, and Isabel Harris, and I was delighted to welcome back “old” friends Joseph Treasure-Jones, Bethan Johnston and Maia Cameron, who produced the sprint finish of the day. Good solid runs from Tommy Thorp and Katy Boden completed a pleasing day for our juniors.
