British Gold follows Northern Silver for Bingley’s Lady Vets

  • by

The Bingley ladies V55 team won the British Masters AF cross country relay championships with 4 minutes in hand, at Derby on Sat 26th Oct 2014.   Mary Green (13.14) lead off on the two lap course (3.1km each leg) around  sports fields and woods at the Moorways Athletics stadium.   The short banks didn’t worry Mary.  Becky Weight (13.41) ran second holding the team’s place overall, and Sue Becconsall (12.54) stormed round the last leg in the fastest LV55 time of the day.  Great to see Sue out again after a summer chasing injuries around her legs and back;  Mary & I knew the ‘I’m  not really  racing’ would still be fast and Sue was happy to be only 1.30 down on the fastest ladies time (11.24) given her limited running over the summer!

With a total time of 40.49 the team were ~10th ladies team overall out of about 35 lady vets (age 35+) teams, with Dulwich V35 winning in 36.53 and Lisa Palmer (Heaton, V35) the fastest  in 11.24.

The week before Mary, Becky and Marisol Carrera-Vivar made a V45 team at the Northern Athletics XC Relay championships at Graves Park, Sheffield, winning Silver over the hilly 2 mile course.  Marisol ran 14.58, Mary 15.20 and Becky 15.54
