English National Cross Country Champs

  • by

Great snowy and muddy English National Cross Country Championships in Sunderland for our Junior runners. Another great day of racing in some very tricky conditions. The day started with an off colour Emile Cairess who battled a cold and the conditions to post a great 21st place in the U15 boys. The girls in the U13’s then took over the show and posted some great results, Vicki Merrick finishing in 55th with Olivia Roper in 210th and new to this age group and first time at the Nationals Lucy Shutt in 230th. 2 hours later, the U13 boys then took the stage and again ran fantastic, Matt Merrick finishing in 32nd place with Alex Stewart in 93rd place.

Overall a great performance from the small band of Juniors who entered the event, let’s hope we see more next year. The best thing about this team is nothing get’s the better of them, as soon as they finished, muddy and smiling, they all said, well that’s it for another day, now off to Ilkley for Fell racing on Sunday morning, what a credit to the club.

Finally, we also had 4 seniors running, Emma Clayton finish a fantastic 4th with Jo Buckley in 44th in the ladies race and John Convery 205th and Fred Gibbs in 926th.GEDSC DIGITAL CAMERA
