Yorkshire Regional Sportshall Athletics Festival – North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax

Following the successful Trials held at Richard Dunn Sports centre the  West Yorkshire Under 11 Girls and  West Yorkshire Under 11 Boys teams travelled to the match in Halifax for the Yorkshire Finals.

The match at Halifax featured the West Yorkshire Tykes,  and 2 teams from North Yorkshire all keen and raring to go. Both the Boys and Girls teams soon found that it would be no push over and had to pull out all the stops if they were to finish as champions. Passing through the events it looked very close with all teams picking up wins on the track and on the field events.

In the end the West Yorkshire Tykes Boys team finished in 1st place all with gold medals with 498 points with North Yorkshire A 28 points behind, just showing that every point counted for the Team. The team won the Obstacle Relay, Over Under Relay, 2+2 lap Relay, 1+1 Relay and the Grand Prix Relay . Individuals topping the rankings were Luke Tweed  in the Speed Bounce (1st equal) and Standing Long Jump, Calum Durrans  in the Speed Bounce(1st equal) and Theo Cokewright in the Chest Push, Joe Byron in the Vertical Jump And Aran Thomas in the Balance Test and Javelin .. All members of the team did very well in their individual events which are scored together with their team mates for the team positions.

The West Yorkshire Tykes Girls Team finished in Gold Medal position with a massive 502 points 32 points in front of North Yorkshire. In the individual events Georgia Norcliffe-Haigh  was 1st in the Standing Long Jump, Molly Lee was 1st  in the Balance Test and Lois Logan was 1st in the Chest Push and in the Standing Triple Jump. Ella Moran  was 1st in the Vertical Jump,  Molly Ellis was 1st in the Javelin and Lucy Adeniji was 1st in the Target Throw  . All members of the team did very well in their individual events which are scored together with their team mates for the team positions. In the relays the Girls Tykes were first in all the relays but were pipped by North Yorkshire in the 2+2 Relay .

The day was an excellent experience for the youngsters with all teams and competitors being cheered on. At the end it was like the paperazzi with all the parents taking pictures of the winning teams . It should not be too long before some of these athletes are competing for clubs in the outdoor Track & Field Leagues.
